United to the Cuban mainland by a 17 km causeway, Cayo Coco is a natural habitat for numerous species of plants and wildlife, especially the pink flamingo. The key has an area of 370 km², with 22 km of fine- sand beaches facing one of the most important coral reefs in the world. The islet is located off the northern coast of Ciego de Avila province, in the central region of the country and more than 500 km east of Havana.
